TRAINING PROGRAM FOR YOUNG MEDIATORS
Program: Education System and Labor Integration for Youth at Risk.
The aim is to promote leadership and to reintegrate young people, aged between 13 and 30 years of age to the educational and productive activities. Youth who are at risk of leaving public school and technical schools ot that already have abandoned education. In the neighborhoods of La Zurza, Capotillo, Simon Bolivar, Las Cañitas, Gualey, Guachupita, La Cienaga and Los Guandules. This will be achieved through a process that integrates life skills, vocational-technical training and job placement opportunities, promoting continuing education.
Young Mediators component.
I. BACKGROUND.
In other projects, IDDI has initiated a process through which we expect the integration of young people in learning civic and democratic values. The project will support the work of citizenship education as a complement to the academic or technical training provided to youth.
This proposal is for Phase II young mediators, which arises after receiving basic training in conflict mediation, democracy and citizenship, leadership and training due to the social actions taken in the target communities.
II. OBJECTIVES.
The objective of this program is to contribute to the formation of new social and political leadership in young men and women with responsibilities in social organizations in various communities around the country to strengthen its analytical capacity on our economic, political and cultural development, strengthening the culture of participation, and portray in new dimensions the social action organizations.
The program aims to potentiate and develop analytical and proactive skills of youth outside his personal and social reality, so they can effectively incorporate themselves into the actions of the various social institutions and policies that impact dominican society.
III. CONTENTS.
The methodology incorporates workshops, conferences, specific guidance, discussion and group work. The process requires prior readings, guides and reports that are done at home.
They work on problem solving issues related to:
Effective communication.
Family.
Values and decision making.
Rights, duties and democracy.
Leadership.
Culture of Peace.
Gender diversity.
Violence.
Good treatment for children.
Child Protection.
After this process young people make multiplication activities through lectures, workshops, meetings, hikes, face to face visits to various agencies of justice, among other activities that support leadership.
For academic and follow-up aims, the contents are composed of specific activities:

Mini Workshops: 4 Hours Alternative Dispute Mediation – INTEC
Discussion: 3 Hours Human Development / Economic Growth Versus – UNDP
Conference: 3 Hours Citizenship, Democracy, Rights and Duties of Citizens. – District Attorney’s Office, National Commission on Human Rights
Mini Workshop: 3 Hours Global Warming And Climate Change. – IDDI – David Luther
Seminar: 3 Hours Communication, Politics, and Leadership. – Juan Bolivar Diaz, Nuria Piera, Manuel Salazar
Mini Workshop: 4 Hours Community Development, Gender and Environment – Ministry of Environment, IDDI-Virtues Álvarez.
Mini Workshop: 4 Hours Technical Information, Communication and Advocacy – Efraín Javier, Altagracia Salazar y Luis Javier
All topics are covered with a focus on Gender, Advocacy and environmental preservation.
IV. Target Audience.
The target component comprises young people committed to social and political work in civil society organizations.
The program targets youth, who have passed a basic training process, which is the second phase of their formation, also they have to meet the following profile:
• Living within the community where the project is implemented.
• Be aged between 18-30 years of both sexes
• Join a club, association and other organization in the community.
• Interest in being trained and participating in civic and democratic education.
• Leadership Capacity and Settlement.
• Develop good Human Relations
• Be responsible, Active / a, Comprehensive, Dynamic, etc.
• Being committed with social development.
Young Mediators:
Young people with leadership skills to deal with situations in your community and be part of the solution.
Actions and commitments of young mediators:
• Participate actively in the activities to be implemented: will be given a schedule of mandatory activities to which they must attend, must make an appearance at least 80% of the program.
• Assist possible extra-curricular activities: During the training period extra-curricular activities will be will ocurr outside the mandatory activities, it is necessary to attend in the extent possible, these activities because these depend on the assistance of the team.
• Join in workshops, conferences and special counseling and group work.
• The process requires prior reading, guides and reports of group work done outside the program sessions.
