ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGY:

IDDI’s strategy is based on six lines of work, which are the following:

Collaboration with the International Donor Community:

This line of work is with the traditional sources of IDDI’s funding, the international donor community that supports health, education, infrastructure, housing, environmental and craft activities, among others.  This sector has its own dynamics, priorities, conditions, etc. and, consequently, requires special attention, planning and follow-up.

Collaboration with the Dominican Government:

Since its creation IDDI has collaborated with the different branches of the Dominican Government, both on the municipal as well as the national level. These collaborations have been broad but not sustained.  As a result, IDDI considers it indispensable to work with government, not only to assure collaboration on specific projects, but also on the policy level.

Collaboration with Business:

IDDI receives a lot of support from private sector, which is primarily focused on development activities.  However, because of the idiosyncrasies of this sector, which is market based and has its own dynamics, special attention must be placed on how the organization deals with it.  Promoting private sector involvement in development is an important focus for IDDI.

IDDI Private Sector Initiatives:

As a way to raise funding for the organization as well as influencing the ethics of the private sector, IDDI has initiated a series of business ventures based on the acquired experience, skills and philosophy of the organization.  IDDI is a part owner of these businesses as are any other interested person or investor.  This strategy line is coordinated by the Center for Sustainability.

Advocacy / Futures Project:

Taking into account that IDDI possesses vast development related experience accumulated since its creation in 1984, a course of action has been created to share this with Dominican society with the purpose of contributing to the dialogue of what must be done in critical areas that have affected the country in the past and have reached almost crisis proportions, such as food supply, provision of water, energy and the increasing risk of major climate change.  The proposals presented are intended to be creative and “out of the box” as much of what has been considered in the past has just maintained the status quo, not much more.

International Outreach:

With the objective of projecting IDDI’s development philosophy in other countries, in 1990 the Dominican Foundation Inc. was formed, in the US and in 2007 the Haitian Institute of Integral Development Inc. (IHDI) was created in Haiti.  The target is to continue with a presence throughout the Caribbean creating a network based on the ethic of participatory integral development.
