PROGRAM FOR THE COMMUNITY AND SOLIDARY
TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN THE COMMUNITIES OF
BAYAHIBE AND VILLA PADRE NUESTRO.
Being implemented since 1999, the program is
part of IDDI’s strategies to create a
society called Inititiative for Solidary
Tourism (IST), with the purpose of
supporting local development in tourist
destination regions, seeking the
participation of different agents that
influence the tourist sector. Achieving in
this way, a sustainable development for the
community and increasing investment values
in DR. |
Bayahibe is a well-known tourist area of the
Dominican Republic, IDDI has being working
the the Hotels Association in several
activities, such as, social development,
economic, environmental, cultural, health
and housing in neighboring communities
focusing on the community of Padre Nuestro.
The program includes the following
projects:
Padre Nuestro housing project, with the
construction of 179 new houses that
reallocate families living the lands
property of the East National Park,
polluting springs and water-bearings stratum
that supply water to Bayahibe hotels. The
Dominican Government also took part in the
project (Secretary of Tourism, National
Housing Institute) as well as other
organizations and private companies as
Romana-Bayahibe Hotel Association, CODESPA
Foundation and IDDI. The administration of
the Archaeological and Botanical Park of
Padre Nuestro is managed by IDDI through an
agreement with the Secretary of Environment
and the Romana-Bayahibe Hotel Association.
Construction of a primary school in the
town of Bayahibe with the support of
international tourist operators.
Craft and cultural development covering the
area of Bayahibe.
Construction of a community center for
vocational education and training, primary
health assistance, community organization
and kindergarten education. |
