CIGAR FAMILY PLAN FOR COMPREHENSIVE AND
PARTICIPATIVE DEVELOPMENT IN RURAL
COMMUNITIES OF BONAO MUNICIPALITY, DOMINICAN
REPUBLIC.
The well-known Chateau de la Fuente is
located on the town Caribe, Bonao
municipality, where the wrapper of one of
the most famous cigars in the world is
grown, the Fuente Fuente Opus-X of
Tabacalera A. Fuente. Most of the success of
these cigars is attributed to the energy and
efforts put by members in this community and
the neighboring ones on growing the precious
tobacco. |

The main objective of this project is the
restructuring of land belonging to the
Vicini Group in Guayacanes, San Pedro de
Macoris Province, through a process that
improves the life conditions of the
population, their reallocation in decent
houses and the social organization. This
project considers the reallocation of 1107
families settled in these lands, building
houses for them in the same area and proving
the rising community with the infrastructure
service and community equipments. |

Since 2001, the Project for the Recovery and
Consolidation of Sugar Cane Communities is
being implemented in Cristobal Colon and
Angelina Sugar Mills of San Pedro de Macoris
province, through an agreement with the
Vicini Group, specifically CAEI enterprise. |

JAVILLAR NEIGHBORHOODS, SAN FELIPE
MUNICIPALITY, PUERTO PLATA
The goal of the program, supported by San
Felipe Generator Company, one of the
country’s electricity generation companies,
is to contribute with the improvement of
life quality of underpriviledged people
living in the target areas. To achieve the
results, we carry out activities involving
the health sector, social mobilization and
environmental clean-up, with the direct
participation of the communities. |

PROGRAM FOR THE COMMUNITY AND SOLIDARY
TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN THE COMMUNITIES OF
BAYAHIBE AND VILLA PADRE NUESTRO.
Being implemented since 1999, the program is
part of IDDI’s strategies to create a
society called Inititiative for Solidary
Tourism (IST), with the purpose of
supporting local development in tourist
destination regions, seeking the
participation of different agents that
influence the tourist sector. Achieving in
this way, a sustainable development for the
community and increasing investment values
in DR. |
